BAU 2023: Surface specialist LEONHARD KURZ makes concrete more resistant - with SIPORIT®

Fürth/Germany, March 29, 2023: BAU 2023, the world’s leading trade fair for architecture, materials, and systems, will be held in Munich from April 17 to 22. International exhibitors will be presenting their new products for the construction industry on a total area spanning more than 115,000 m2. The focus topics include energy-efficient construction, digitization, and state-of-the-art technologies for the construction industry.

At Stand 304 in Hall A2, the decorative and functional surface coatings expert LEONHARD KURZ will be presenting SIPORIT®, an absolute innovation for the construction industry. The transfer coating for green concrete optimizes the surface and can give it both functional and decorative properties.

Largely pore-free surface for resistant and durable concrete

The concrete edge zone, in particular, forms the defense against environmental influences - and poses challenges for construction companies. As a result of evaporation, it usually loses water faster than the concrete core of the component. This can have a negative effect on strength, reduce frost and wear resistance, and lead to faster carbonation of the concrete. “Although there are already protective solutions for the after-treatment of concrete on the market, we at KURZ have set ourselves the goal of developing an innovative technology to increase the resistance of concrete during production,” explains Simone Donhauser, Product Management Construction at LEONHARD KURZ, and continues: “We drew on our many years of experience in the field of surface coatings to develop SIPORIT®. By using it, a largely non-porous surface can be generated, which effectively protects against extreme weather conditions, carbon dioxide pollution, and mechanical stress. SIPORIT® extends the service life of concrete long-term.”

Optimized manufacturing and added value for the construction industry

SIPORIT® not only offers long-term advantages. Costs and resources can already be saved during the production of concrete components by combining the pouring and coating of the concrete in a single, efficient work step. “The substrate with the actual surface coating is fixed in the formwork. The fresh concrete is then applied as usual. After the concrete has hardened, the formwork can be easily removed - doing away with time-consuming cleaning and the use of formwork oil,” explains Dr. Uwe Reuther, Head of Business Area Industrial R&D at LEONHARD KURZ, and adds: “Incidentally, the carrier material can remain on the surface for the time being. It thus serves as transport and storage protection, which is simply removed at the construction site. What remains after removal is a concrete component that leaves nothing to be desired in terms of durability. The surface can also be given an individual, decorative touch. In this respect, too, we benefit from our in-depth expertise in the field of surface decoration.” BAU 2023 visitors to Stand 304 in Hall A2 can get an idea of the finishing possibilities SIPORIT® opens up. KURZ will also be providing information on the various ways in which cooperation projects can be significantly shaped by customers or partners right from the outset.
